Wire bending becomes art

A challenge won with passion

We discovered that bending metal wire could produce works of art by taking on the challenge proposed by ATELLANI ITALIA and the internationally renowned designer Ivan Black.

It was 2018 when we first encountered the SQUARE WAVE, a hypnotic piece of wire design born from the study of the Fibonacci sequence.

Each piece of the square wave rotates, twists, and separates in a fluid interplay of shapes that creates a surprising array of optical illusions.

The challenge posed by Atellani Italia was clear: to reproduce this unique object using our bending machines.

Problem: millimetric precision

During the design phase, measurements, numbers, and dimensions must be adhered to down to the last millimeter to ensure the interplay of waves is perfect.
What appears to be a simple interplay of threads and movement is actually a perfect alchemy of numbers and craftsmanship.

Each sector of the Square Wave must be perfectly balanced, closed, and linked to the next manually with extreme precision.

Solution: How did we do it?

Perseverance, passion, and thirty years of experience in working with metal wire have allowed us to create this elegant furnishing accessory, after a long and painstaking prototyping process.

Thanks to the use of precision CNC bending machines and the care of our specialized staff, every single piece of polished drawn steel that makes up the Square Wave has been bent perfectly, both to give the component its angle and to create the hooks at the ends.
Following the design, each wave has thus been given the right balance between weight and length.

Subsequently, a manual adjustment of folds and joints with artisanal precision intertwined the individual pieces to create this design object entirely made in Italy.

To complete the work, we finally created the perfect support for its best display: a base with metal wire and a magnet.

Today, Square Wave is available in various finishes and multiple colors: a refined icon of contemporary art.
